A LITTLE BACKGROUND
Last fall, Jaguar Communications; a competitor’ of Mediacom (the ONLY Cable TV/Internet provider in the City of Hamburg) was installing their fiber optic cable underground in anticipation to begin offering their TV, Internet and Telephone service to the residents of the City of Hamburg.
During their process of installing their fiber optic cable underground, Jaguar Communications punctured buried natural gas lines, owned by Xcel Energy, at least twice and ‘knocked out’ telephone and Internet service to several customers of Century Link, the local telephone service provider, for an extended period of time because of ‘cutting’ Century Link’s buried cable(s) during their installation process. Additionally, Jaguar Communications ‘cut’ a Cable TV/Internet/Telephone line owned by Mediacom; serving my neighbors; that is the reason for my filing a complaint with your organization against Mediacom, for their heinous actions and outrageous business practices.
When Jaguar ‘cut’ the Mediacom cable serving my neighbors, Mediacom came out and laid a ’temporary’, bright orange replacement service line on the top of the ground from where Jaguar had cut Mediacom’s service line, to my neighbor’s house. This temporary bright orange replacement service line was laid, by Mediacom, across the entire south and west sides of my property WITHOUT contacting me and WITHOUT my permission or authorization.
When I called Mediacom to inquire about this ’temporary’ service line running across my property, I was told that it was, indeed, temporary and would be replaced with a ‘buried’ line, and while I wasn’t given a definite time and date as to when this would take place, I was ASSURRED that it would occur BEFORE the ground froze. Again; this was (about) last September !
Also, during this, and many subsequent telephone conversations with Mediacom, I made it VERY CLEAR that, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, were they being given permission to trespass onto my property and bury their cables in my yard.
Having Mediacom’s ‘temporary’ cable running through and across my yard created enough of a hassle and inconvenience for me whenever I had to cut my grass. When the ‘temporary’ cable continued to remain on my property with no apparent intention, by Mediacom, to remove it, I made several more telephone calls to Mediacom expressing my concern that nothing was being don to remove their ’temporary’ cable. EACH TIME I was ASSURRED, by Mediacom, that the burial of the ‘temporary’ cable was going to take place, but each time I was never given a specific date as to when it would be buried. Also, during each telephone conversation with them, I made Mediacom CLEARLY AWARE that they WERE NOT AUTHORIZED trespass onto my property and/or bury their cable in my yard.
During one of my calls to Mediacom, I was directly, and rudely, told by one of their Customer Service Representatives that Mediacom could (basically) run (or bury) their cables wherever they wanted because of them having been granted ‘easements’ that allows them to run their cables wherever they want. I took exception to that stating that they couldn’t come onto private property to install or bury their cables. The person that I was speaking with stated that they could; I saw no use in speaking with him any longer.
NONE of my calls to Mediacom ever resulted in Mediacom coming out and removing their ‘temporary’ bright orange cable from my property. At one point, I saw a Mediacom truck parked on the side of the road and spoke with the Service Technician sitting in the truck about the ‘issue’ I was having. He told me that I would have to contact Mediacom ’customer service’; there was nothing that he could do for me !!
For the entire period from when Mediacom laid their ‘temporary’ bright orange cable, without my approval or authorization, across the ENTIRE length and width of my property, throughout the ENTIRE 2018-2019 winter, their ’temporary’ cable REMAINED laying on the surface across two sides of my yard.
This spring, after the snow had totally melted three times, the ‘temporary’ bright orange cable (about the size of your thumb) once again was ‘starring’ at me from two sides of my property.
When the ‘temporary’ cable continued to remain on my property with no apparent intention, by Mediacom, to remove it anytime soon, I made several more telephone calls to Mediacom expressing my concern that nothing was being done to remove their ’temporary’ cable. It was also an ongoing ‘hassle’ for me because it continually had to be ’moved’ whenever I cut the grass.
Receiving no satisfactory response from Mediacom’s Customer Service Department, I decided to drive to their local headquarters office in Chanhassen. Once there, I met with a receptionist and explained MY ‘issue’, and THEIR ‘problem’, with her. This very polite lady stated that she would have a Installation Supervisor contact me.
A week or so later, I met at my home in Hamburg, with an Installation Supervisor for Mediacom. I clearly explained, and pointed out, the problem with their ‘temporary orange cable’ that had been laying across the south and west sides of my yard since last fall. I also explained my numerous calls to Mediacom’s Customer Service Department expressing my concern and disapproval with how they had, WITHOUT MY PERMISSION, laid their ‘temporary’ cable across my yard, had been basically ignored.
I also related my telephone conversation last fall with one of their extremely discourteous Customer Service Representatives telling me that ‘somebody will be out in the spring to bury the cable” and the how I was told that Mediacom will bury their cable wherever they want; whether I like it or not’ because they have ‘easements’ that allow them to do so.
I informed the Mediacom Installation Supervisor that I did NOT want my neighbor’s cable line buried in my yard; I made that VERY CLEAR to him. He clearly understood my disapproval of burying their cable on my property and we discussed an ‘alternate path’ for running their cable.
Instead of burying their cable across two sides of my yard, I pointed out the location of a power poled across the street from my neighbor’s house, and pointed out that Mediacom could simply run their cable from the power pole to my neighbor’s house.
The Mediacom Installation Supervisor stated that would be an acceptable solution to my long-standing problem and stated that he would send a crew out to run their cable from the power pole across the street from my neighbor house, to their house.
I was very pleased and happy that Mediacom’s Installation Supervisor helped me deal with this long-standing issue and we were able to arrive at a mutually agreeable solution.
However, that was not to be as it appeared.
On April 25, 2019, two Mediacom employees parked their vehicle ‘up the street’ from my house; apparently waiting for me to leave my house so they could surreptitiously trespass on my property and bury their able line across my property to my neighbors house. LESS THAN THIRTY SECONDS AFTER LEAVING MY HOME,, a Mediacom employee was ‘caught on camera’, by one of my several CCTV Security & Surveillance Cameras DIGGING UP MY BACK YARD NEXT TO MY HOUSE !!!
For more than an hour, my very sophisticated, multi-camera Security & Surveillance Video Recording System would record the criminal acts of trespass and damage to my yard and property by two Mediacom employees who had ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT OR AUTHORIZATION to come into my yard and damage my property !! Their acts are even more egregious given the fact that they stalked me and waited for me to leave my home and then, LESS THAN THIRTY SECONDS LATER, began digging up my yard; subsequently damaging my property !!
Copies of the (approximately 150) photographs capturing the reprehensible actions of Mediacom’s employees are part of this Webpage that unconditionally document my allegations. In addition to intentionally trespassing onto my property to bury their cable in my yard WITHOUT MY PERMISSION OR AUTHORIZATION, I am also enclosing additional photographs showing the damage that was done to my yard, the lighting system used to illuminate my American flag, one of my closed circuit security cameras and the border surrounding our central air conditioner compressor.[
Speaking of my flag light and one of my closed circuit Security and Surveillance cameras, I was intending to bury the wire to those two locations from my house, but now, because Mediacom has already buried has already, WITHOUT PERMISSION OR AUTHORIZATION, I am UNABLE to bury MY cables without ‘disturbing’ the cable illegally already buried in my yard by Mediacom.
As an interesting ‘sidelight’, when I moved to Hamburg in March 2007, there was a Mediacom cable that went to my same neighbors, laying on the top of the ground across the south and west sides of my yard. For the NEXT TWO YEARS, I kept calling Mediacom to have them come out and bury that cable, but they never did come out until I ‘ramped up’ my actions against them.
And when Mediacom finally DID come out, you guessed it; they buried their cable, on my property, on the south and west sides of my yard.
This whole matter ISN’T about Jaguar Communications, it ISN’T about my wonderful neighbors of twelve years and it ISN’T about the City of Hamburg.
Rather, it’s about the ‘bullying’ attitude and mentality of a major company whose actions are wholly unacceptable !! I believe visitors to my Webpage regarding Mediacom’s actions will fully agree with me.
I've filed a formal complaint against Mediacom with the Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and kave asked them, to contact Mediacom, on my behalf, and have them explain their reprehensible actions and what they intend to do about what they’ve already done, and what they intend to do to prevent others from experiencing similar occurrences to happen, like happened to me, from their company.
Please check back frequently as this matter progresses.
